What is a Military Deployment Book? Similar to College Yearbooks and Navy Cruise Books, a Deployment Book is a pictorial history documenting major command missions, events, combat actions and the daily life of the Soldier while on deployment. Created by Soldiers for Soldiers, these unofficial deployment histories are usually paid for by individual members, are often subsidized by command Morale, Welfare and Recreation funds, and are generally edited and produced by the command’s Public Affairs Office. Historically such books are created by units ranging from Company size up through the Brigade level, and range in length from 100 to 250 pages.
